I was born in Buffalo, New York on January 28, 1942. My early goals in life were to attend Cornell University, become an officer in the United States army, and become a lawyer. I successfully pursued those objectives, going first to Cornell University then graduating from the University of Texas with a degree in Government in 1963. My family moved to California so I attended the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco and graduated in 1966. I entered the United States Army as a second Lieutenant. I was stationed in Cam Ranh Bay, Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, being honorably discharged as a captain and was awarded the Bronze Star.
During my tour of duty I represented numerous soldiers in court martial proceedings. I was quite successful in obtaining acquittals or reduce charges. These experiences were very helpful in preparing me for my career as a criminal defense attorney.
I began my legal practice as an assistant Alameda County Public Defender from 1969 to 1972. I then began a private criminal law practice. I have been with the Law Offices of Robert J. Beles for over 20 years.
I have devoted my legal career exclusively to my clients and the practice of criminal law. I have tried over 50 jury trials and have negotiated over 50 times that number to the satisfaction of my clients and their families.
Here are some direct quotes taken from cars and letters my clients have sent me over the years.
- “Thank you for everything” - 2009 Pleasanton Terrorist Threats case
- “Thank you, I want to show my appreciation for being in my corner”. –2006 Pleasanton Drug Case
- “Thank you again for all your wonderful professional and kind help you gave me” – 2009 Concord Expungement
- “Thank you again for all your help last year. We do appreciate you” - 2008 Burglary case
- “I appreciate the services you provided and I am pleased with the outcome”– 2010 Expungement
- “Thank you so much for your professional service in helping me”– Hayward Theft case
- “Thanks again for everything you did for me, it is very well appreciated” “Thank you for all your help”– 2009 Theft case
- “I want to thank you all and your staff again, for helping me so expertly resolve both the DUI and the DMV matters in my favor. I would not hesitate to recommend your firm” 2011 Oakland DUI case
I will always get my client the best plea bargain if that is the only way out of a tough situation. Bail reductions and alternatives to jail are my specialty. My belief is all about keeping my clients out of jail. I truly enjoy being of assistance to people.
